From dust to dust - Finnabair Brand Ambassador

This was such a fun and scary project to do! My co-worker asked me to do a birthday present for her husband and brought me a bunch of items that she liked I would use in the piece. She also gave the frame. I felt honored but scared at the same time as I wasn't sure if I could capture the feel she was looking for and if I used the items in a project they would be stuck there. Luckily she really liked the end result!

Her husband owns a video store so that's why I looked for film reel styled items in my stash. He's also keen on reading and a local hokey team - that's why there's a book in the background and also the book pages and emblem of the hokey team next to the type writer reel.

This project is special also for another way as it sparked the idea for a new workshop. I'm keeping that one for the first time in Klemmarikellari, Finland in May. If you'd like to participate, please see the sidebar for the confirmed dates!

I'm grateful that you visited my blog today! Thank you! All the best!

Fancy feathers - Prima Marketing

Sunny Wednesday! How are you today? Today I'm sharing some ATCs that traveled to CHA. They haven't returned yet, so these are not up for grabs and swaps just yet. I'll let you know when they are back, if someone is interested in getting one.

These little ones are made using Rose Quartz collection. I really loved the feather design in one of the papers and decided to highlight them in these cards. Besides the feathers there's just a few other things in the cards. There's a piece of paper doily in all the cards, some black gesso and a couple of pieces of twine. The theme of the cards are elements and the world. The texts are cut from another Rose Quartz paper with a big map design.

Thank you for your visit today! Please send me a mail if you are interested in an ATC swap! As I wrote earlier, these cards haven't come back yet, but there's others available. Ta ta for now, have a great day!

Cotton candy dreams - 7 Dots Studio

I love the increasing amount of light here up north! The long winter starts to be over and there’s sunlight and if not that, at least daylight streaming through the windows again! Ah! This is effecting also my creating as I start to use different colors and have noticed a big increase in my use of flowers in my crafts!

So when thinking about the project I was going to make for a tutorial piece for 7 Dots Studio, I decided to do a flowery layout. I used sweet, pastel colors and a lot of blooms to make a spring-like page with candy-like colors. Please see how the layout was made from the video below.

The layout is about our trip to Berlin a couple of summers ago. While in there, we visited the beautiful Charlottenburg Palace with a lovely Baroque style garden so the blooms seemed really appropriate for this page!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a lovely day!

Pale and blue - GDT Mixed Media and Art

It's a beautiful Monday! Last week of March just started and summer time is here in Finland. Well, you couldn't tell it from the way the weather looks like but we did turn clocks yesterday.

Today I'm sharing a special project - I had the honor to guest over at Mixed Media and Art blog. You can see the guest post here (link).  If you are not familiar with Mixed Media and Art blog, I highly recommend having a look. The team over there is just so talented and the projects are pieces of art. Although the blog has a lot of visual candy, you can also participate as it's a challenge site. My project was done using the March challenge, which you can find here (link). You can see the mood board of the challenge also underneath.

The collage gave me much inspiration! I really loved the collage with the different shades of blue - blue is my favorite color! There was jeans blue and delicate pale blue shades. Just lovely! And also the connection to weathered wood and beach. I also really liked the sketch also as it's kind of just outlines for the project and you can interpret it the way you want.

I mimicked some of the elements in the collage in my piece. For example the lace-like pattern in the skull on the top photo transformed into a piece of lace in my project. Because the theme in the collage was sea what would fit better than a bottle to the piece? Instead of a message inside it, I added some glitter.

I also loved the see-through vases and the play with light and heavy looking items. The see-through part for my piece came from the fantastic discovery from my stash, a little transparent tray. For the heavy things I used metal embellishments because I thought the light feel of the background and the flowers needed a strong contrast.

Thank you for your visit today! Wishing you a great week!

Opal Magic cards - Prima Marketing

Sweet Sunday! How's your weekend been? I've been having a crafty weekend and we also visited an interesting exhibition today so I'm ready for the new week!

Here's a little something I created fro Prima showing the Opal Magic paints. If you are familiar with Opal Magic Mica, you probably have some idea how the paints work, too. But where as you get one color with the Opal Magic Mica, you get two in the paints! You can see the original post with more awesome projects here (link) at Prima blog

I really love the effect of the Opal Magic paints. Even if I have used them a hundred times I’m still always amazed by the effect they create and most of all the magic! I also am drawn to their different look - one on white and one on black.

To illustrate that color changing magic even more I created two cards using exactly the same paints and most of the other supplies, too. The big difference is the color of the base – one I painted with black gesso the other with white.

If you'd like to see in a few short steps how the cards are made, please see the tutorial below. Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have a pleasant week!

Step 1) First, make your composition using some Prima blooms and embellishments. Use a piece of watercolor paper as your background. Adhere everything with gel medium and let dry.

Step 2) Paint the cards with gesso. Use black for the other and white for the other.

Step 3) Then apply the paints. See how different the cards look and they are both done with same paints! On white surface the Opal Magic is a romantic, pearly shine and on top black it bursts into color!

Step 4) Finish your cards with some additional details. Lace and crystals for the sweet look and Glass Beads and crystals for the metal look. Use a slightly bigger piece of patterned paper to mount the cards.

Playtime with wax - Finnabair Brand Ambassador

Hi there! I'm sorry for my absence this week! There's been a lot going on sort of "behind the scenes" so I haven't had the time to write and time the posts. So sorry!

But today I wanted to share this little canvas with you. It actually started as a demo sample way back last year but I kept it as I thought I might finish it someday. It was originally white but when I had the privilege to get some Finn waxes, I grabbed black gesso and created a little playground for myself.

On top if the black base I then started to play with the Opal Magic and Antique Brilliance waxes and added a couple of touches with the Metallics as well. This was my first go with the waxes so I was kind of just getting the feel of them. But slightly tested their abilities, too, with the stenciling and the different textures.

Hopefully you've had a wonderful day so far! Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Pen jar - 7 Dots Studio

Hello there and good evening! Hopefully you've had a wonderful day! It's Wednesday already and not long before the weekend starts. If you are looking for something fun to do during the weekend, 7 Dots Studio has a new challenge! The topic is "altered art, beyond the page" this time. So this time no cards or layouts as such, but more dimensional projects. You can create canvas, piece of home decor or some jewelry - your only limit is your imagination!  Here's the link to the challenge post (link). I really urge you to take a look as there's so many great pieces there! Also the challenge rules are there.

My first idea was to alter something and go really mixed media with it. But as that’s what I love to do, I thought to challenge myself a bit more and go with a lighter hand with the mediums. Surprised? I was. But it's good to challenge oneself occasionally.

Luckily I then found a tall tin jar in my stash and thought to make a pen holder out of it. That way I could use more patterned paper and embellishments and not so much mediums! Something altered and something handy in same package. As you can see, I did use some mediums, but tried to use quite a few paper elements as well.

Thank you for stopping by today! Can’t wait to see what you do with the theme!
